How to upload a video to YouTube

You'll need a YouTube Channel to upload your video.
Learn how to create a YouTube channel.

  1. Sign in to YouTube
    1. Go to https://www.youtube.com.
    2. Click Sign in in the top-right corner.
    3. Enter your Google Account email and password.
  2. Access the Upload Tool
    1. In the top-right corner, click the Create icon (a camera with a “+” symbol).
    2. Select Upload video from the dropdown menu.
  3. Select Your Video File
    1. Either drag and drop your video file into the upload window,
      or click Select Files to browse your computer.
    2. Choose the file you want to upload.
  4. Add Video Details
    You’ll be taken through several tabs:

    • Title: Give your video a clear, descriptive title.
    • Description: Write a short summary or details about the video.
    • Thumbnail: You can upload a custom image or use one of YouTube’s auto-generated ones.
    • Playlist (optional): Add it to an existing playlist if you have one.
    • Audience: Choose whether it’s made for kids or not (required by law).
  5. Add Video Elements (Optional)
    • Subtitles: Add or upload closed captions.
    • End Screen: Promote other videos at the end.
    • Cards: Add clickable links during the video.
  6. Set Visibility
    Choose how your video will be shared:

    • Private: Only you and people you choose can watch.
    • Unlisted: Anyone with the link can watch (not searchable)
      This is the recommended setting for using your video on your website.
    • Public: Visible to everyone and searchable on YouTube.
    • You can also schedule a public video to go live later.
  7. Publish
    • Review all settings.
    • Click Publish (or Schedule) to finish.
    • YouTube will process your video — longer or higher-quality videos may take more time.
